On Friday, June 6, 2025, I had the privilege of performing a Bris (Traditional Ritual Circumcision) at the United States Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) in Twentynine Palms for the newborn son of a dedicated Jewish service member family.
As an ACS Chaplain with the U.S. Coast Guard, a Certified Mohel, I’m honored to support Jewish service members and their families, no matter where they’re stationed. This Bris was particularly meaningful, as it connected generations of faith, courage, and commitment to Jewish tradition, even in the desert.
The baby’s Hebrew name is Ori Elioar (אורי אליאור), meaning “my light” and “God is my light”- a powerful symbol of hope and continuity for the family and the entire Jewish community.
This experience was made even more special through the Divine Providence that brought Chaplain (LT) Rabbi Levi Ceitlin of the US Navy into this family’s life at just the right moment. A chance encounter at the base commissary, sparked by a simple question about makeup wipes, opened the door to chaplaincy support and spiritual care that carried through to today’s milestone.
A heartfelt thank you to SoulLinks for making this journey possible. Their unwavering support and dedication to Jewish service members ensure that no one walks alone, no matter where duty leads.
Ori Elioar’s bris at 29 Palms stands as a testament to the strength of Jewish tradition and the power of chaplaincy to bring light and connection even in the most remote places.
